How does it work?
Operators download recorded flight data from their aircraft data storage device. That data is then sent directly to OpenAero’s secure server for processing. An analyst accesses the data through the OpenAero web-based analysis tool and reports valuable information directly to the operator’s flight safety and operations personnel.
What service does OpenAero provide?
OpenAero provides centralized web-based remote monitoring and expert diagnostic technologies that automate data analysis, standardize routine reporting requirements and provide this information in near real-time to subscribers. These online reports present engine diagnostic information and flight operational data in an intuitive view for quick analysis. This technology focuses on reducing large volumes of data to actionable information for maintenance and operational purposes.
OpenAero Analysts convert flight data into information, which through coordination with the operator becomes valuable knowledge. Scheduled reports include:
Monthly Reports – identifying adverse safety and operational trends
Electronic notifications – time-critical electronic notification to report actionable items
On-demand Reports – support for complex events related to incidents and accidents.
What does it cost?
Hardware and installation for OpenAero equipment varies depending on aircraft type and fleet size. For fleet operators, the OpenAero Team 3rd party solution is less than the cost of an in-house program. A well-run program will save money, while increasing safety and operational efficiencies. The OpenAero Team acts as an extension of an operator’s flight operational structure, without adding additional safety or IT support personnel.
Are there any other considerations?
The ability to review flight profiles ensures that all flights are flown in the most efficient manner. The data gathered from the flights will also allow the training department to fine-tune the way procedures are taught, maximizing efficiency.

ESRG’s OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite enables Machinery OEM’s to remotely monitor the health of assets under warranty or service agreement. The OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite enables fleet wide analysis of machinery health and can provide early warning of design problems propagating throughout the install base. The OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite can be utilized to track machinery run hours and load usage (capacity factor) on the install base to enable parts forecasting for inventory projections and control.
The OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite is utilized today to monitor air compressors, gas turbines, diesel engines, air conditioning units, and many other types of machinery. ESRG’s experience with monitoring and diagnostics of steam plants, gas turbines, and nuclear power machinery enables our engineers to provide your design teams and service personnel the expertise needed to create diagnostic/prognostic rules and algorithms to ensure installed machinery is properly operated by the end user.
An example of how OstiaEdge™ can benefit an OEM is reflected in the following case study. A gas turbine reliability engineer was reviewing data related to an issue with lube oil pressure during startup of an installed gas turbine generator. The issue had been flagged by automated rules monitoring the startup event. As part of his analysis, the engineer used the OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite to perform comparison of startup events across the entire fleet he was responsible for monitoring. The comparison revealed that the lube oil pressure issue was occurring during startup events on multiple turbines. Further analysis with the OEM revealed that the problem was related to a design change and was present on every unit manufactured after a particular date. Individual asset monitoring would not have recognized this problem, and by analyzing the data with a fleet approach, the scale of the fleet wide problem became clear. Utilizing OstiaEdge™, the OEM could have pro-actively identified and corrected this problem before the customer presented it as a warranty issue.
CONTACT US today if you would like to learn more about how the OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite can reduce your warranty and service agreement cost.

The rising cost of employees has forced many companies to reduce onsite personnel and utilize corporate locations to perform analysis that has historically been done at the plant level. This forces the onsite staff to focus on alarming and immediate actions which can consume nearly 100% of available time. Because of this, centralized engineering analysis is more important than ever to ensure plant reliability and availability does not suffer.
OstiaEdge™ CE provides companies the ability to create centralized rule sets to perform “fleet level” analysis enabling comparison of machine health from unit to unit or plant to plant. When desired, a vector based Anomaly Detection Engine (ADE) can be employed to help engineers and analysts predict when machine behavior strays from its normal operational envelope. The ADE can be employed alone or in concert with other crisp rules to ensure machine behavior is monitored to your exact criteria. The flexibility of OstiaEdge™ CE allows the rule sets to be run on a schedule or upon receipt of the data as it is transferred from each asset or plant. OstiaEdge™ CE employs Open System Architecture for easy integration and interoperability through the use of MIMOSA OSA-EAI Web Services, with installed Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), SCADA systems, or centralized (corporate located) enterprise historian systems. The analytical results can be viewed utilizing the OstiaEdge™ Portal, or since the data is stored in a MIMOSA CRIS 3.2 compatible relational database, results can be accessed and displayed using many off the shelf reporting tools. The following are examples of the type of equipment for which OstiaEdge™ CE enables maintenance and condition based operations:

ESRG’s relationship with IT also ensures all corporate security requirements are met.
Today’s machinery is heavily outfitted with sensors for use by control and alarm systems to protect from catastrophic failure. Most companies have installed historians and reliability tools to track and trend performance, reliability, and availability. With this level of technology available to plant personnel, it leads many to question why unexpected plant failures still occur.
ESRG believes one of the gaps within these tools is the lack of understanding of plant condition and operational states. ESRG offers OstiaEdge™ PE to integrate online and offline data sources and provide you the ability to “qualify” the data for various machine states. By utilizing OstiaEdge™ PE to understand what state your machine is in, you can then create unique rules and alarm setpoints for each state. OstiaEdge™ PE specializes in integrating data from your plant historian, distributed control system, vibration monitors, and other reliability applications, providing a 360 view of all data sources to detect and diagnose machinery failures and drive operational and maintenance decisions.
