The OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite enables early warning of machinery problems and provides all levels of shipboard and shore-side personnel the information they need to make informed operations and maintenance decisions.
The OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite technology is utilized today by the US Navy under the flagship name MELS (Maintenance Engineering Library Server) and is used to monitor various ship classes. Monitored machinery includes gas turbine, diesel propulsion and power generation systems. The OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite is also used to monitor many auxiliary systems including air conditioning units, reverse osmosis and distilling plants, motors, pumps, and compressors. The years of experience gained on this equipment is immediately transferrable to a commercial fleet of ships, and ESRG understands and has adapted our software products to deal with varying machinery models and unique issues found in the marine industry such as limited connectivity.
Utilizing the OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite Technology, automated rules which continuously analyze a high pressure air compressor prevented an issue days before a catastrophic failure would have occurred. The 5th stage discharge pressure and temperature exhibited a degrading trend, and the subsequent assessment report instructed the crew to perform an inspection during the next available shutdown. Although the compressor was still operational, the inspection revealed 5th stage piston seal failure. This advanced warning enabled the crew to make preparations by ordering the required parts and materials and scheduling the maintenance during the next port visit. Utilizing the OstiaEdge™ Monitoring Suite, the ship prevented an unexpected failure during an underway period, enabled the crew to plan accordingly for the machine outage, and prevented days of unexpected downtime.
